The Web Specialist will perform specialized information technology web services for URM as well as a variety of internal and external clients associated with the university. This position will design and provide daily operation and administration of university, department or college web pages and web based programs along with analyzing, researching and making recommendations regarding Information Technology network systems. This position will share a community of interest with academic faculty, academic research, admission recruitment, public service and instruction.



    • Develops strategies and implements tactical plans for technology solutions that address current and future needs of the department home page, client sites and other university sites. Ensures these channels reflect the university’s strategic priorities and brand identity.
    • Provides leadership in Web design and maintenance, research, and implementation of new technologies to members of Solutions and Services team, clients and department leadership.
    • Establishes protocols, identifies Web priorities, responds to requests, tracks maintenance schedules, and coordinates communications among staff, clients and leadership regarding proposed enhancements and changes.
    • Anticipates program, client and department needs and deadlines for changes; prepares and presents recommendations for adaptation, customization, or alternatives to resolve business and communication issues.
    • Manages relationships and collaborates with internal and external clients to ensure successful implementation of system changes and promotes support services.
    • Works within OSU’s content management system (Drupal) and wordpress to design and build websites, custom themes, researches and recommends modules and plug-ins. Establishes and executes best practices for user experience, information architecture, accessibility and front-end development.
    • Manages web development projects, including planning, designing, identifying and managing resources, timelines, alternatives, impacts of changes and issues involving technical and resource/budgetary constraints.
    • Monitors, tracks and reports on division digital activity to department and division leadership.
    • Contributes to effective organic search engine optimization. Edits pages, content, metadata and other strategies to maximize rankings. Maintains a current understanding of SEO best practices.
  • Works closely with the URM leadership to express the university’s brand in digital spaces.
  • Reviews websites for adherence to the university’s brand guidelines and provides guidance to units on the execution of those policies.
  • This position is a leader in the university’s digital community on best practices and tools to improve and attain the goals and standards, set by the URM division, of marketing and communications through the DEI perspective. This work includes collaborating with designers, writers and other digital team members to keep this priority moving forward.
  • Assists in the maintenance of department content management systems, including registration platforms, web-to-print solutions and online storefronts.
  • Works with client relations staff and management to ensure digital information regarding department is accurate and up to date.
  • Works at the direction of URM leadership to provide support in communicating information to internal and external stakeholders during crisis situations. This includes posting OSU alerts on the homepage, building web pages to provide more details to stakeholders and assisting in finding other digital solutions during this time.


    • A Bachelor’s degree in web design, marketing, communication or other equivalent experience
    • 2 years professional experience in web design, UX, front-end development/design, or related work.
    • Experience with modern front-end web technologies including HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery.
    • Demonstrated expert proficiency with large-scale content management systems, such as Drupal.
    • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity in a professional or personal setting.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Demonstrated understanding of information architecture and website design best practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully independently.
    • 2 years of experience working in Drupal.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet goals while remaining flexible in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, requiring planning and organization skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups and experience advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in previous work.

Work Arrangements

The work of this position is primarily located in Corvallis, Ore. Some work may be done remotely at the discretion of the supervisor. Occasional evening, early morning and weekend work is required when adjustments are needed for websites that are critical to university communications or strategies. For example: post emergency alert messages on the homepage.
